The
day before yesterday, I read the news from internet. I feel so sad that
cannot be explained from my heart. I never heard about such a kind of
news before. The news expresses family cases but it is not good. It
makes me very thoughtful that how much moral education really needs in
our daily life.
In respect of that news, I want human being to have the quality of virtue. It is also capital of their life. Today may I share two important qualities in man. These two significant virtues guard the world from its downfall. They, in the light of the Buddhist text, are "Hiri" and "Ottappa".
Here Hiri means the feeling of shame dealing with the evil whereas Ottappa means the fear of its result. This pair of virtues is called "Lokapala" (world-protector or deifying qualities). Human beings are higher than animals and they remain as they are because of these two virtues. Actually, without them, sexual confusion and persecutions would rule supreme in the whole world.
It means that there would be no recognition of differences between mother and wife, between wife and sister or daughter. Without morality, human life would be equal to that of the animals, but because of these two virtues still exist in human beings, the world is adequately guarded against its ruin.
Any time, any situation we have to save these two qualities. We have to save our life, our dignity, and the seed of the possibility of success within us. We have to upgrade our life with those kinds of quality. One who has these two qualities at least can open to all other good and healthy qualities.
It is a moral education, life is not sufficient for us not only with modern education. So also please learn and apply moral education with one another to become good person, right person, and noble person.
Please do not play "Hiri and Ottappa" with some other incorrect meaning in life.
